Piezoelectric Shoe
The goal of our project is to create a passive device that will be worn on a human to absorb waste energy and use that energy to charge a battery. We decided that the best solution to this problem would be a piezoelectric generator, which will convert otherwise lost mechanical energy to electrical energy. The generated electrical energy will then charge a NiMH AA battery.
This project has 4 main components to it: the CAD model, the mechanical design, the electrical design, and the experimental data on the prototype's effectiveness. The CAD model will specify the design, the measurements, the amount of materials, and the theoretical implementation of the project. Based on the CAD model, some parts may even be 3D printed. The mechanical design and electrical design will be developed near simultaneously. The electrical design must implement the piezoelectric generator and battery charging circuit, while the mechanical design must redirect the mechanical energy input and make the overall device safe, aesthetic, and user-friendly. Once a prototype has finally been created, a quantitative experiment must be performed and reported to determine its effectiveness in solving the original problem.
